Garre Du Nord Paris
This placed First in the Beginners Black and White section of the Limerick camera club competition this week.
The photo is taken in Gare du Nord, Paris, from the top of the steps leading to the Eurostar check-in area. I had to ask 3 heavily armed soldiers to move so that I could get a shot of the station. They were very obliging.
I had arrived on the Eurostar from Kings Cross St. Pancras in London. Compared to St. Pancras Gare du Nord is a bit of a shed. Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to take any pictures of the recently renovated St. Pancras station but it is on my list of places to go back to.
The focus point in this photo is the glass at the rear of the trainshed. This is so the grid of panes are sharp as this is the loaction where all the lines in the station are leading.
I was a bit diappointed with the quality of the print I thought it was a bit too dark but other people seemed to like it.

Lindau
This Photo was taken in Lindau in Southern Germany. Lindau sits on Lake Constance (Bodensee) which borders Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The harbour is very sheltered with a wall that surrounds it and a narrow entrance between the Lion and the Lighthouse. The Lion on the left is the symbol of Bavaria. The lights that are visible across the lake are in Bregenz ,Austria. I had started the day in Zurich with a train journey to Konstanz. Then I took a ferry to Friedrichschafen and then on to Lindau. So lots of Photos were taken. This is probably the best of them.
I had to clone out the mobile phone mast on the top of the light house. It was rather unsightly.
This Photo placed second in the beginners colour section of the Limerick camera club December monthly competition this evening.

Karlsplatz Munich
This photo was taken in Karlsplatz in Munich.
I was originally taking photos of Mike in front of the fountain but they weren’t coming out very well so I took a couple of the fountain by itself. It was only when I looked at this one on the screen afterwards that I saw the little girl on the right. I think she adds quite alot to the photo.
The Photo was submitted to the Limerick Camera Club monthly competition challenge section. The challenge was “Water”. The photo didn’t place.
The colour effect was achieved by using a levels adjustment layer in photoshop and changing the black colour

Christmas tree 1

Christmas tree 2

Christmas tree3
The Limerick Christmas tree had its lights turned on this evening. The tree is floating in the river. Apparently it’s taller than last years tree. It’s hard to tell though. I say tree but it’s made of bits of scafolding. Anyway it’s the tallest Christmas decoration in Ireland. It’s still an “Eco tree” whatever that means but it’s missing its wind turbine star this year.

Pictures taken at the BMW facility in Munich in September
All pictures taken with a Canon Digital Rebel XTi and a sigma 18-50 f2.8 lens.

Update 13/10/08: I have no Idea why the above image won’t display from flickr. It’s worth a look by clicking here
Fake Tilt and shift effect photo, taken from the hill in the Olympia park in Munich. The BMW tower is on the right and the BMW Welt show room is on the left, with the BMW museum (with the blue stripe) under the tower.

A Black and White Photo of the BMW Museum. Converted in Photoshop.

BMW tower with a prototype hydrogen car in the foreground.

BMW tower with either a hydrogen or a hybrid prototype ( I can’t remeber which) in the foreground.

This is a picture taken in the glass facade of the BMW Welt car showroom. All of the above are visible in the Photo.

I was in Dublin on Saturday and I was hoping to catch the match in a pub or something. Unfortunately all the pubs were showing English soccer and not Irish rugby. It just goes to show that the Dubs are more English than the English.
Anyway as I missed the match yesterday I decided to go to the hallowed ground and do my penance. I explained my situation to the security guard and he took pity on me and allowed me in to ask forgiveness for my sin. While I was in there I took this photo!

This is an Image of the Grossmünster in Zürich reflected in the window of a shop across the river. I was walking back to my hotel around midnight after taking a few photos when I spotted this in the window so I had to take the picture. The photo below is of the same scene but the camera pointed the other way. There’s a tram going by in the photo below.
Photo above is a 20 second exposure at F22 and ISO400
Photo below is also a 20 second exposure at F22 and ISO 100.
There’s a nice amount of detail in the towers in the bottom photo. The only processing that was done was a bit of cropping.

This photo was taken just before the previous ones and is taken on the other side of Münsterbrücke. Again there is a huge amount of detail in the church. This is a 20 second exposure at F22 and ISO 100. I used a Gorilla pod to take the photo. The gorilla pos is wrapped around a railing. I couldn’t get it straight on the railing so I had to straighten the image in Photoshop afterwards.
All of these photos were taken with my Canon Digital Rebel Xti (400D) and using a Sigma 18-55 F2.8 (macro) lens

I took this photo in Zurich at the end of August. It’s a stitch of two images. I was in the right place anyway as there was another photographer in the saame place with a proper tripod waiting for a photo. I initially wanted a blue hour photo but the day was really hazy and the sun was setting behind me so the sky didn’t go blue at all unfortunately. I took this using my Gorilla Pod I had no room in my luggage for my large tripod. I waited until a tram was going buy on the left hand side. It’s a shame about the flood lighting on the left though. I like the symmetry of the clock tower on the right and the Grossmünster on the left. I have a couple of nice photos of the Grossmünster by day which I will post in the coming days.

Testing Posting to the Blog from Flickr.
This was taken in February and is a crop of a larger image. I must go back and retake it when there’s less trafic on the bridge and after they put back up the flower baskets.
I think this is probably a good position for a night shot but under the bridge at night wouldn’t be the safest
This was submitted as part of a five panel print for the Limerick camera club. I resubmitted it for the Limerick cup only I printed it much larger and ar a tighter crop than the panel submission or this one.
I have a copy of this printed on to Canvas and it’s just about 4 feet across. It fills the wall perfectly above the couch.

I took this photo of Merchants Quay in Limerick on Friday Evening. I was down for the Salsa Celtica in Arthurs Quay park around 9 o’clock. Before the music started there was a nice light falling on the castle and the court house so I took a couple of shots. This is merely a crop, I haven’t done any processing.
I liked the photo so much I made it my banner. Like any photo on this site if you click on them a larger version will appear. Clicking on the link at the base of the larger photo will take you to it’s flickr page.

I know I’ve said this before but I mean it this time, I’m going to start blogging.
First of all I need to write about something. Mike has downloaded and installed flickr tag. I saw it and thought thats a great idea. So I downloaded it and went to upload it to my word press account. Would you believe it, I already had it installed. It’s been so long since I’ve been here or done anything with this Blog that I forgot what I had installed.
So Anyway, here’s a couple of photos from my flickr account.
